Critical Essay 3

Cultural Commodity

The place that I believe consumes cultural commodity for me is going to Church. The church for me is where I should be descent and holy it is for me where you should behave the most. In my opinion I am most capable of asserting my subjectivity there, because during my young age I was thought to pay respect whenever I’m in a church. The cultural commodity of this is that all can visit and pay respect to God the church doesn’t care about your race or social class, because  the main purpose of it is to serve and spread the word that’s why for me the best cultural commodity is the church because when we go there we can see that we are all equal.

Critical Essay 2

Cultural Commodity

The political cultural commodity that I will be using will be through a form of a music video. The music video is Childish Gambino “This is America”. The framework that I will be using is cultural Marxism. The video shows about guns and violence in America and the fact that Americans have to deal with them and consume them as part of entertainment on one hand, and on the other hand, is a part of our national conversation and national problems. The final moments of the video show Childish Gambino running, terrified, down a long dark hallway away from a group of people as Young Thug sings “You just a Black man in this world or You just a barcode.” Childish Gambino running goes back to a long tradition of black Americans having to run to save their lives, according to Ramsey, who says one song dating back to slavery in the 19th century. A black person running for his or her life has just been a part of American culture dating back to slavery. The effect of this cultural commodity to me in terms of my own subjectivity is that race or skin color is still a main factor of social unevenness. Like here in the Philippines, people often try to associate dark skin as people who are poor or uneducated and as for the people who have fairer skin, they associate them with the traits of being rich and well groomed. I believe that this kind of mindset should be put to a stop, because if it does not stop soon, it never will. And I could definitely say that in our society today, this is one of our biggest problems/issues.

Critical Essay 1

Cambodia Trip Experience

The cultural Commodities that are being consumed and produced in Cambodia are there shared experience during the revolution that was led by Pol Pot he was a Cambodian politician who led Cambodia as the Prime Minister of Democratic Kampuchea between 1976 to 1979. Pol Pot reformed Cambodia as a new Democratic Kampuchea. Seeking to create an agrarian socialist society his government forcibly relocated the urban population to the countryside to work on collective farms. Those regarded as enemies of the new government were killed. These mass killings, coupled malnutrition strenuous working conditions and poor medical care, killed between 1.5 and 2 million people, approximately a quarter of Cambodia’s population, a period later termed the Cambodian Genocide. During the trip in the genocide museum and the killing fields, I was able to gather insights on how identities are shaped in settings where there are memories of collective violence and stress that had happened. For the cultural commodity I think that it would be the survivors of the genocide in S-21, because they use their own experience on what had happened during that time and they use this as a source of income. For the dominant narratives that emerged, I would say that It would be the survivors of the genocide, in my opinion the resistive narrative of the survivors is that when being asked by a tourist about what had happened you could see it through their eyes the inhumane things that was being done to them. The dominant narrative that I observed is that they are proud of their history, because they were able to preserve their history. For me Cambodia is a great educational place in where you would be able to learn and understand  that they use their agony as a tool for their income.

Critical Commentary 3

Critical comments on indigenous Filipino theories.

The indigenous Filipino theories that is unique for me is the Pantayong Pananaw because, it tackles about the discourse on civilization and Its high hopes to create an environment wherein the nation can share in one encompassing discourse, one that would lend to a sense of totality a shared understanding of the nation’s history that can give force and direction to a collective vision of the future. The Pantayong Pananaw accepts that having a solitary and brought together view of history, the Filipinos can talk and impart in their own terms like, in their own language utilizing their very own idea examples and way of relating and in view of their own advantages. The Indigenous Filipino Theorizing faces the issues of ethnicity, hybridity, and area. Regardless of this, I accept that the Filipino’s intellectual mind might connect the holes of Philippine history and writing. Beside this, with the right dispersion and allocation of assets, and backing from the government can make the society of the Philippines better. In my own opinion The Pantayong Pananaw is a concept which its main goal is to have “pagkakaisa” or so we call unity, having unity is great in a country, because it would be able to help our country to solve problems and help improve the living of the society.

Critical Commentary 2

Critical comments on post-colonial theories.

The Post-Colonial Theory have three concepts which are hybridity, ethnicity and location this three regions of postcolonial hypothesis which underscore the heterogeneity of postcolonial social personality. This has prompted a progressively mind changing and complex examination of the legislative issues of way of life as it identifies with the state of life in a postmodern, postcolonial world. Hybridity centers around the examples of relocation, both the development of colonizers into the colonized territory and migration from the settlements to the pilgrim control, coming about to national personality being substantially more cross breed than what was initially comprehended. This outcomes from cognizant developments of social concealment, as when the provincial power invades and to combine political and monetary control, or when pioneer trespassers arranges indigenous people groups and power them to blend in to new social examples. Ethnicity is when it focused upon the development of the positive personality of being dark as connected to poor and white as rich, and in that capacity this idea of obscurity was principally founded on physical highlights and inequalities as marker of one’s character. The location is about investigation of a specific land territory and its connections to personality with the examination of the social, social, religious and etymological procedures which establish as a social character.

Critical Commentary 1

Critical commentary on the Critical Western theories

The critical Western Theory that I have chosen is the Marx Theory, because Marxism is the most vital political philosophy during the nineteenth century world and it’s still evident this day. The Marx theory is a  conservative world, but it created a practical way of political economic life of this country such as  Russia and China and served as the model for the toiling mass of the third world, who took it as an way to end poverty, injustice and exploitation of all types. Marxism stood as a symbol of progress and advancement. The Marx Theory features four main points which are Dialectal Materialism, Materialistic Conception of History, Class Struggle and The Theory of Surplus Value.  Dialectal materialism means “union of opposites”. The expression is rooted in the Greek word dialego which means to debate or discuss with a view to arrive at the truth by admitting the contradictions in the arguments of the opponents. Materialistic conception of history is the mode of production in material life as the determining factor in the general character of social, political and spiritual process of the world. It is the process of production which is the key factor of social evolution. The productive system and production relation among the men is the foundation of the superstructure of the society. Class struggle according to V. I. Lenin “Classes are large groups of people differing from each other by the place they occupy in a historically determined system of social production, by their relation to the means of production, by their role in the social organisation of labour, and consequently, by the dimensions of the share of social wealth of which they dispose and the mode of acquiring it”.  The Theory of surplus Value is the value of a commodity in which it is determined by how much labour and time are spent on it. Although the value of a commodity is sometimes influenced by the forces of demand and supply, there is no denying the fact that in the long run the amount of manpower spent on the production of the commodity is the key factor to fix the price of the commodity In my opinion the Marx Theory is the most suitable theory for a country to develop, because all of the four concept talks about how to run a country and as we can see it is still being used until today.
